Architecture compounds
A JSON-driven form engine on the banking platform cut new-form delivery by ~50% and is still the team's default 18 months later. Architecture is the part of the codebase that earns interest. Every component contract, state boundary, and folder shape either pays down delivery cost or rents space.
Performance is a deliverable
35% faster navigation on a finance-education SPA. 10K+ row virtualization on hotel revenue dashboards. Core Web Vitals owned and reported, not approximated. Measure first, then cut. Bundle size, render path, and perceived speed are deliverables with numbers attached.
Tests are the refactor budget
80%+ unit coverage on owned modules. Critical journeys locked in Cypress. The tests are the refactor budget. They are how the team changes the system on a Friday and ships confidently on Monday, long after the people who first wrote the code have moved on.
AI as a teammate
Copilot and Claude in the loop for scaffolding, first-draft refactors, and test generation. The engineer still owns the design, the review, and the ship decision. Cuts the delivery cycle 2–3× on work that used to be boilerplate, with the same code-quality bar.
